The Dooleys were a British pop band from the 1970s and 1980s.
history
Beginnings
Under the name "The Dooley Family", the six siblings Jim, John, Frank, Marie, Anne and Kathy Dooley from Ilford began their performances in the late 1960s. From 1973 they resided in Salford and the nightclub scene around Manchester was at the center of their sphere of activity.
At that time, Marie left the group, while bassist Bob Walsh and drummer Alan Bogan joined them. In 1974 they got their first record deal and recorded the first two singles.

successes
In 1975 "The Dooley Family" toured Eastern Europe and performed in Moscow on October 29th. The album on the occasion of this live performance was sold over 2 million times. From 1976 they called themselves "The Dooleys" and had their first major success in 1977 with Think I'm Gonna Fall In Love With You , with which they reached number 13 in the British charts.
In 1978 the youngest member of the family joined Helen Dooley. The Dooleys toured Europe and the Far East. Their biggest hit, Wanted , reached number 3 on the British charts in August 1979. Similar to several other European pop bands of the time, which emphasized glamor and elegance , they had particularly great success in Japan, where they performed at the Tokyo Music Festival in 1980.
With The Chosen Few they achieved another top ten hit in their home country . In the Federal Republic of Germany they remained almost unknown, in 1982 they could be seen with And I Wish on the Musikladen show. This title was the only one to hit the German charts.
Crisis, dissolution and start-up
Anne Dooley and Bob Walsh left the group after their marriage, as did Helen Dooley. Singer Vicki Roe and bassist Gaz Morgan became new members. The Dooleys' popularity declined noticeably in the 1980s, and by the middle of the decade John, Frank and Alan left the band to form "The New Dooleys" a year later with the new arrivals, Karen and Amanda. Jim and Kathy Dooley carried on and were now accompanied by Ian Sudworth, Dave Riley, Paul Dean and Pete Whinnett. In March 1987, Paul Dean and Dave Riley left the Dooleys and were replaced by Phil Brown and Nigel Parrott. In December 1987, Pete Whinnett left the group in favor of new member Martin. Vicki Roe left in 1988, Phil Brown in 1990.
Both groups had only modest success compared to before. In 1991 the Dooleys were on stage for the last time at BP Club Hedon Road. In 2007 Jim, John and Frank released a collection of new songs called The Dooley Brothers Band .
