from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Unique Komedy Ukulele Orchestra is a 2009 from the German Erwin Clausen under the name of The United Kingdom Ukulele Orchestra (TUKUO, UKUO) founded German band under the musical direction of Peter Moss , who for 27 years to the creative team of the weekly broadcast satirical radio show of the BBC with was entitled "The News Huddlines". The orchestra's satirical and comedic form of presentation has its roots [unproven] in the radio satire mentioned and its years of collaboration with the musical The Rocky Horror Show in London.

The founding name, appearance and performance of the band were very similar to the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (UOGB) founded in 1985 . This similarity led to a legal battle in which the London High Court found "that the copy cat 'The United Kingdom Ukulele Orchestra' founded a few years ago by Erwin Clausen in Germany is an inadmissible imitation" and "is based on its good reputation and appended to the reputation of The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain ". The court found the organizer of the band of "passing off" (literally: pretending to be) guilty and came to the conclusion that he and his colleagues at Yellow Promotions had "outside honest practices" when setting up the band Practices) traded. With this judgment, the band was also banned from performing under the misleading name within the UK (the jurisdiction of the court). The name The Unique Komedy Ukulele Orchestra is now used on the band's revised website .

History and composition of the orchestra

The orchestra was at the beginning of companions and friends [unoccupied] Director of Music, Peter Moss , which since 1998 [unoccupied] together Ukulele had played and was supplemented by an additional player from London, Glasgow, Nottingham and Edinburgh. The orchestra toured Europe in 2011 and participated in the Edinburgh Festival in 2012 . [unassigned] It played in 2011 at the “Hamburger Kabarett-Festival” in the St. Pauli Theater . [unoccupied]

The orchestra consists of six to seven acoustic ukulele players and an electric bass ukulele. The repertoire of the music group ranges from classical to rock , pop and jazz . The orchestra works less with alienating the musical material, but rather with the production of a sound pattern that is sometimes very close to the original from the rhythm of the ukulele and polyphonic singing. Spontaneous fades and transitions from classical music to pop or from opera to swing or jazz are just as much a part of her show as comedically presented medleys from very different musical directions and styles. Special attention is also paid to comedic ukulele players and forerunners from British film and show history such as George Formby Jr.

In 2015 the orchestra will perform at its concerts in Germany and the USA with the following cast: Lesley Cunningham, Sarah Dale, Alan Dowson, Alex Gold, Stephen Truman, Peter Baynes, Stuart Crout and Andrew Wild. From the very beginning, the orchestra has supported the reconciliation project “Ukuleles for Peace”, founded by Paul Moore in Israel, in which Israeli and Palestinian children play ukuleles together, which is intended to help bring children in the divided region together peacefully through making music together.
