Dagfinn Høybråten

Dagfinn Høybråten (born December 2, 1957 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian politician of the Christian People's Party (Krf), which he chaired from 2004 to 2011.

Høybråten studied political science at the University of Oslo and at Luther College , USA . He was Minister of Health from 1997 to 2000 and again from 2001 to 2004. In this role, he succeeded in significantly reducing the smoking rate in Norway with his smoking ban campaign . The measure was a model for other international smoking ban laws.

He was then Minister of Labor and Social Affairs ( Bondevik II government ) until 2005 . He then led the Krf parliamentary group in Storting until 2011 . The anti- abortion opponent , who belongs to the evangelical Misjonsforbundet , was more often criticized for his allegedly “health fanatics” and Christian fundamentalist positions, on which he did not comment. Since March 2013 he has worked as Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers. He has been a member of the GAVI Alliance board since 2009 and was its chairman until 2015. Norway has one of the largest shares in GAVI's funding.
