Einar Steensnæs

Einar Steensnæs (born March 10, 1942 in Haugesund ) is a Norwegian politician of the Christian Democratic Kristelig Folkeparti (KrF). From 1989 to 1990 and from 2001 to 2004 he was minister of his country.

Political career

Steensnæs was a member of his hometown city council from 1979 to 1989 and from 1991 to 1993. From 1987 to 1989 and 1991 to 1993 he was mayor of Haugesund. Between 1979 and 1987 he also sat in the Fylkesting of the Rogaland Province .

On October 16, 1989, he was appointed Minister for Church and Education, later Education and Research. He held this office until November 1990. In the parliamentary elections in 1993 he first moved into the Norwegian parliament, the Storting . There he represented his province of Rogaland until 2005. From 2000 to 2001 he was chairman of the committee for foreign affairs. From 1997 to 2000 and 2005 he was parliamentary group leader of his party. On October 19, 2001, he was appointed Minister of Oil and Energy in the Bondevik II government . He held the post until June 2004.

Steensnæs was a member of his party's executive committee from 1991 to 2004, and from 1995 as deputy chairman. In 2006 he was made an honorary member of the KrF Rogaland, in 2007 for the national KrF.
