Jan P. Syse
Jan Peder Syse (born November 25, 1930 in Nøtterøy , † September 17, 1997 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian conservative politician of the Høyre party .
biography
January Peder Syse studied until 1957 Jura . He was a member of the Conservative Student Union, of which he was chairman in 1952. After completing his studies, he worked as a department manager at the Wilh shipping company until 1967 . Wilhelmsen . After that he was deputy head of department in the Ministry of Commerce and Shipping. In 1970 he became State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice. From 1971 he was back at the Wilh shipping company . Wilhelmsen , now employed as deputy director and legal advisor. From 1973 Syse was a member of parliament in Storting , from 1983 to 1985 he was industry minister and then parliamentary group leader of his party.
After negotiations following the parliamentary elections on September 11, 1989, Syse became prime minister of a minority government that collapsed on October 29, 1990.
Political party
Syse was chairman of the youth association of the Conservative Party and sat from 1957 to 1963 on the central committee of the mother party. From 1988 he was party leader of the Conservatives. On January 16, 1991, he resigned from this office because the Conservatives had lost heavily in polls and many members had resigned. He was also accused of being unsuccessful during his time as prime minister.
