Eleonore Bjartveit

Eleonore Bjartveit (born July 11, 1924 in Alta ; † September 26, 2002 ) was a Norwegian politician of the Kristelig Folkeparti (KrF). From 1989 to 1990 she was the culture minister of her country.

Life

Bjartveit studied medicine until 1951. She then worked as a doctor in various hospitals and medical institutions until 1967. Between 1967 and 1983 she worked as a medical advisor at Trygderetten , the judicial body that judges complaints against decisions by the Norwegian Employment Service ( NAV ).

Bjartveit was a member of Oslo City Council from 1979 to 1991 . Between 1981 and 1993 she was part of the KrF board of this city. In the legislative periods from 1981 to 1985 and from 1985 to 1989 she was the so-called Vararepresentantin in the Norwegian parliament, the Storting . As such, she represented the then Minister Kåre Kristiansen from June 1983 to May 1986 . From October 1985 to May 1986 she was vice-president of the Odelsting , a then still existing chamber of the Storting. During the same period Bjartveit was also part of the KrF parliamentary group. Between 1989 and 1993 she was directly elected as a member of parliament for the Oslo constituency.

On October 16, 1989, she was appointed Minister of Culture and Science; on January 1, 1990, the area of ​​responsibility changed to Culture and Church. She held this office until the end of the Syse government on November 3, 1990.
