Børge Brende (born September 25, 1965 in Odda , Hordaland ) is a Norwegian politician ( Høyre ) and President of the World Economic Forum since 2017 .

Political career

Brende was involved in the youth organization Unge Høyre . From 1986 to 1988 he was its deputy chairman and then headed it as its first chairman until 1990. From 1994 to 1998 he was also a deputy chairman of the board at Høyre. Brende also worked as vice chairman of the European Movement in Norway (1991-1992).

Between 1991 and 1997 he was a city councilor in Trondheim . From 1997 to 2009 he represented the former province of Sør-Trøndelag as a member of the Norwegian Parliament in Storting .

minister

Brende was Environment Minister in Kjell Magne Bondevik's cabinet from 2001 to 2004 . Between 2004 and 2005 he was Minister of Economic Affairs and Trade. From October 16, 2013 to October 20, 2017, he was Norway's Foreign Minister in the Solberg government . As such, development cooperation also fell within his remit.

World Economic Forum

From 2008 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2013 he worked as Managing Director of the Geneva World Economic Forum . He has been the President of the World Economic Forum since autumn 2017.
