Per-Willy Amundsen
Per-Willy Amundsen (born January 21, 1971 in Harstad ) is a Norwegian politician of the Fremskrittspartiet (FrP). From December 2016 to January 2018 he was Minister of Justice in the Solberg government . From 2005 to 2013 and again since 2017 he is a member of parliament in Storting .
Political career
From 1989 to 1990 Amundsen was chairman of his party's youth organization, the Fremskrittspartiets Ungdom (FpU), in what was then the province of Troms and from 1992 to 1994 a member of the board of the youth party in Hordaland . Amundsen studied economics at the Norwegian Business School between 1991 and 1995 and then worked for various employers until 1999, before becoming self-employed until 2001. From 1999 to 2005 he was a member of the Harstad municipal parliament.
In the 2005 parliamentary elections , Amundsen received a mandate for the Norwegian national parliament in Storting for the first time . He became a member of the Local and Administrative Committee before moving to the Energy and Environment Committee in October 2011. In the 2013 election , Amundsen lost his mandate as he failed to become the top candidate on the party list in the Troms constituency. Instead, he was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Municipalities and Regions in October 2013. He held this post until December 20, 2016, when he took over the office of Justice Minister. On January 17, 2018, his party colleague Sylvi Listhaug finally took over the ministerial post during a government reshuffle .
Having received a seat in Storting again in the 2017 elections , he returned to parliament at the end of his term of office. There he became a member of the Foreign and Defense Committee before moving to the Justice Committee in January 2020. Since January 2020 he has also been a member of the parliamentary committee of the FrP.
Political positions
Climate policy
In 2012, Amundsen said that the sun was the biggest factor influencing temperature and CO 2 in the atmosphere and not people. He also said that “climate fundamentalists” would take over the debate in Norway and that he and his party wanted to return to sensible politics. In his view, it would be irrational to spend billions of crowns on climate protection if it really didn't have a significant impact, as only a small number of countries are committed to climate change targets while countries like China continue to increase their emissions. When he took over the office of Justice Minister in 2016, he refused to comment on what he said.
Rights of the Sami minority
During his time as Justice Minister, he also refused to comment on the rights of the Sami minority , although these also fall within the remit of the Justice Ministry. In 2007, he declared that municipalities should not fly the Sami flag on the Sami holiday because there is no Sami state. In 2011, in his capacity as spokesman for Sámi politics for his party, he said that the Sámi flag should not be used in general as it could give people the impression that some Sami want to secede from the rest of society. In 2010 he also spoke out in favor of the abolition of the Sameting - the parliament of the Sami minority in Norway - because this parliament was part of a special ethnic treatment.
Rail transport
Together with Torgeir Knag Fylkesnes ( SV ), he had unsuccessfully campaigned in Storting in 2020 for the expansion of the North Norgebanen to Tromsø .
Abid Raja
In September 2019 it was announced that he was initially secretly preparing plans to prevent the re-election of the Venstre politician Abid Raja as Vice President of the Storting. He had previously accused the FrP of using "brown rhetoric". Amundsen said that Raja has the right to be a controversial politician, but that he is then unfit to lead parliament. Amundsen's plans were rejected by FrP colleagues because the Venstre party had a right to a vice-president and was free to choose him.
