Torgeir Knag Fylkesnes (born June 4, 1975 in Tromsø ) is a Norwegian politician of the Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV). He has been a member of parliament in Storting since 2013, and has been deputy party chairman of the SV since 2019.

Life

Fylkesnes, who lived in Botswana between 1983 and 1985 , studied history, social anthropology and philosophy at Tromsø University from 1994 to 2002 . He sat in Tromsø's local parliament from 1999 to 2002. In 1999 he founded the technology and PR company ArcGiraff , where he worked until 2013. In the period between 2002 and 2007 he acted as an advisor to his party, the Sosialistisk Venstreparti. He also worked as a philosophy lecturer at Telemark University. In the then province of Troms he was the party chairman of the SV from 2011 to 2012.

In the general election in 2013 Fylkesnes moved as the leading candidate for the constituency of Troms for the first time in the Norwegian National Parliament Storting one. In the election in September 2017 , he was re-elected. He first became a member of the Committee on Churches, Education and Research, and in December 2015 he switched to the Economic Committee. There he became deputy chairman in October 2017. In October 2017 he was also elected deputy group chairman by his group.

At a party congress on March 30, 2019, he prevailed against his opponent Kari Elisabeth Kaski in the election of deputy party chairman of the SV.

Positions

Energy policy

Fylkesnes mainly deals with Northern Norwegian topics. He is against an expansion of oil production further north, i.e. in the areas around Lofoten , Vesterålen and Senja . In January 2017 he criticized a proposal by the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap), which in his opinion represented the starting point for such an expansion. In June 2016, he suggested that people moving to the north from a southern Norwegian province with higher unemployment be paid a one-off payment of 40,000 kroner.

He also advocates a ban on wind turbines in rural areas. In 2019, a proposal he supported to include a ban in the SV's party program failed.

tax

In December 2016, Torgeir Knag Fylkesnes, as his party's fisheries policy spokesman, advocated higher taxation of salmon from salmon farms . He explained that this was necessary because, over time, breeding has concentrated on a few economic players and jobs created in the industry have disappeared again due to technological development.

traffic

Together with Per-Willy Amundsen ( FrP ), he had unsuccessfully campaigned in Storting in 2020 for the expansion of the North Norgebanen to Tromsø.
