Norbert Casteret

Norbert Casteret (born August 19, 1897 in Saint-Martory , † July 20, 1987 in Toulouse ) was a French speleologist .

The son of a lawyer studied law and became a notary , a profession which he gave up shortly afterwards. During the First World War , he served in the French infantry and fell ill with the Spanish flu . Although Casteret was considered an amateur adventurer, he undertook numerous dives and worked his way up to a leading speleologist in his home country . One of his highlights was the exploration of an underground lake in the cave of Montespan .

Private

Casteret was married to a doctor's daughter and had five children. His wife, like her father, had studied medicine.
