Bent Høie (born May 4, 1971 in Randaberg ) is a Norwegian politician of the conservative party Høyre (H). Since October 2013 he has been Minister of Health of Norway.

Life

After leaving school, Høie studied law for a year at the University of Bergen and from 1991 to 1993 hotel management at the Norwegian School of Hotel Management . In 1990 he was elected chairman of the youth organization Unge Høyre in the province of Rogaland , which he remained until 1992. Between 1993 and 1995 he was a member of the youth party's executive committee. From 1991 to 1995 he was a member of the local parliament of Randaberg and until 2000 a member of the Fylkesting of Rogaland. From 1995 to 1999 he served as political advisor to the Høyre faction on Stavanger City Council . In the local elections in 1999, Høie himself became a member of the city council.

Since 2000 Høie has been a member of the Storting , the Norwegian parliament, for the province of Rogaland . In April 2000 he took over the mandate of the late MP Jan Johnsen. From 2001 Høie moved directly into the Storting. At a party convention in 2010, he was elected vice chairman of his party. In 2013 he headed the Conservative Program Commission, which developed the electoral program for the 2013 general election .

From October 2009 to September 2013, Høie was the chairman of the Storting's health committee. On October 16, 2013, he was appointed Minister of Health in the Solberg government, which he remained after the 2017 general election . In March 2019, he became the longest-serving Norwegian Minister of Health since the office was introduced. In October 2018 it was announced that Høie would become Fylkesmann for Rogaland in 2021 after the general election . In December 2019 he announced that he would not run again for the election of the vice-chairman of the Høyre party.

Høie has been married to Dag Terje Solvang since June 2000.
