Jøran André Smedal Kallmyr (born April 15, 1978 in Fræna ) is a Norwegian politician of the Progress Party (FrP). From March 2019 to January 2020 he was the Minister of Justice of the Government Solberg .

Life

Kallmyr was chairman of his party's youth organization in the province of Møre og Romsdal and later in Oslo . He was also a member of their state board. From 2007 to 2015 he was a member of the Oslo City Council. From 2009 to 2011 Kallmyr was responsible for the environment and transport in the Oslo city government ( Byråd ). In 2012 he obtained a master's degree in law from the University of Oslo .

In October 2014, he became State Secretary in the Norwegian Ministry of Justice. He held this post until February 2016. In March 2019, after Tor Mikkel Wara's resignation, he was appointed as the new Minister of Justice. On January 24, 2020, he left the cabinet after the FrP left the government.

Expulsion of his au pair girl

At the end of May 2019 it became known that the authority responsible for immigration issues Utlendingsdirektoratet was of the opinion that Kallmyr's Filipino au pair had worked for him illegally. The woman therefore had to leave the country on May 10, 2019. Kallmyr denied the authorities' allegations that the Filipino woman did not work for him for part of the time, but was merely a guest. This means that she would not have pursued a paid job without the appropriate permission. This approach was highlighted by the media because the competent authority is subordinate to the Ministry of Justice. As a result, the areas of legislation that affect au pairs were handed over to the Ministry of Education and Integration.
