Jan Tore Sanner (born May 6, 1965 in Bærum ) is a Norwegian politician of the conservative party Høyre . He was Minister for Local Authorities and Modernization from October 2013 to January 2018, and then Minister of Education and Integration until January 2020. Since January 2020 he has been the finance minister in the Solberg government . Sanner has been a member of parliament in Storting since 1993 .

Life

Training and time at Unge Høyre

Sanner graduated from secondary school in 1984 and studied market management until 1987. He got involved in the youth organization Unge Høyre , of which he was chairman in his home town of Bærum from 1985 to 1986. In 1987 he was promoted to chairman in what was then Akershus Province and he remained in this position until 1988. He then became vice chairman at the state level and between 1990 and 1994 he was finally in charge of Unge Høyre at the state level. In 1994 he graduated from Norges Markedshøyskole with a degree in market economics, which later became the BI Norwegian Business School .

Storting

Jan Tore Sanner was first elected to the Storting national parliament for the Akershus constituency in the 1993 parliamentary elections. Before that, he was in parliament from October 1989 to November 1990 because he represented his party colleague Kaci Kullmann Five there , who had to suspend her mandate as foreign minister.

Since 1993 he has sat on various committees, and in the 1997–2001 legislative period he was the deputy chairman of the Energy and Environment Committee. After the 2001 election , he moved to the finance committee, where he became deputy chairman in 2005 and held it until September 2013. From 2001 to 2013 he was also the deputy group leader of the Høyre group.

Government member

After the parliamentary elections in 2013 there was a change of government and Sanner became a member of the new Solberg government . On October 16, 2013, he took over the office of Minister of Local Government and Modernization, which he held until the presentation of the new government team on January 17, 2018. There he was introduced as the new Minister of Education. After the government exit the Fremskrittspartiet (FrP) he took over on 24 January 2020, the finance minister of FrP politician Siv Jensen .

Since 2004 he has been vice chairman of his party.

Private

Sanner is married to the Norwegian presenter Solveig Barstad. Have two daughters together.
