Ola Elvestuen (born October 9, 1967 in Vestre Toten ) is a Norwegian politician of the Venstre party . From January 2018 to January 2020 he was Environment Minister in the Solberg government .

Life

Elvestuen studied social anthropology , political science and history at the University of Oslo . From 2000 to 2007 he was chairman of the Venstre party in Oslo . In 2008 he was elected deputy party chairman at the state level. On March 5, 2020, the Venstre party leadership proposed the two party colleagues Abid Raja and Sveinung Rotevatn as new deputy chairmen. According to this proposal, Elvestuen should remain on the party executive committee. The decision must be confirmed by a party conference in April 2020.

He was a member of the Oslo City Council from 2003 to 2015. Between 2011 and 2013 he was responsible for the environment and transport part of the Oslo city government ( Byråd ). In 2013 he moved to Storting for the first time after the parliamentary elections . From October 2013 to January 2018, he was both Deputy Group Chairman and Chairman of the Committee on Energy and the Environment. On January 17, 2018, after his party's entry into government, he was appointed Norwegian Minister for Climate and Environment. He resigned from the government on January 24, 2020 after the cabinet reshuffle caused the Fremskrittspartiet to leave the government .
