Kristin Krohn Devold

Kristin Margrethe Krohn Devold (born August 12, 1961 in Ålesund , Norway ) is a politician and economist. From 2001 to 2005 she was Norwegian Defense Minister in Bondevik's second cabinet . She belongs to the conservative Høyre party .

Life

She graduated from the Norwegian Business School and graduated in 1985 with a degree in civil economics. From 1989 to 1993 she was part of the board of the Norwegian statistical agency Statistisk sentralbyrå . Between 1991 and 1993 she was also a member of the Oslo City Council .

In 1993 she was elected to the Norwegian Parliament in Storting for the first time , to which she was a member for a total of three consecutive terms for the Oslo constituency until 2005. On October 19, she was appointed Minister of Defense. As a minister, Krohn Devold came under fire after budget irregularities in the Ministry of Defense totaled over one billion Norwegian kroner . Parliament opened investigations against them, but these were terminated early.

Krohn Devold advocated Norway's participation in the Iraq war and the war on terror in Afghanistan . She was traded as a possible candidate to succeed NATO Secretary General George Robertson in 2003 , but the Dutchman Jaap de Hoop Scheffer was ultimately preferred.

After her time as minister, she worked as general secretary of the hiking club Den Norske Turistforening until 2013 .

Krohn Devold is married and has two children.

Awards

In 2004 she received the medal for selected friends of the country of Latvia. In 2005 he received the Bachelor's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland and Kommandør av St. Olavs Orden .
