Norsk biografisk leksikon
The Norsk biografisk leksikon ( Norwegian biographical encyclopedia ; abbreviated NBL ) is the most comprehensive biographical encyclopedia in Norway.
The first edition was published by Verlag Aschehoug in 1921–1983 . It contained 19 volumes with 5102 articles. The second edition was published in ten volumes between 1999 and 2005 by Kunnskapsforlaget . The publisher has received financial support from the Fritt Ord Institution and the Norwegian Ministry of Culture.
In 2006 the second edition of the encyclopedia began to be digitized. The online edition was published in 2009, together with the Norske Leksikon store . The edition contains almost 5840 articles.
