Hægebostad is a municipality in the Agder province in Norway . It borders Kvinesdal to the west and north , Åseral and Lyngdal to the east and Lyngdal to the south.

Hægebostad has 1680 inhabitants (as of February 27, 2020). There are also around 800 holiday homes ( hytter ).

The Lygna River, which is protected along with its tributaries, flows through the municipality from north to south. This and Lake Lygne have good fish stocks due to the lime content. There are a total of 988 smaller and larger lakes in the municipality.

There is a rich animal life with elk , beaver , deer , hare , grouse , eagle and lynx . In the north of the municipality are the grazing grounds of the southernmost wild reindeer herd in the country.

The Reichsstraße RV42 crosses the municipality in an east-west direction and the RV43 forms the connection to the Europastraße 39 in the south . The Sørlandsbane stops in Hægebostad at Snartemo station . This lies between two of the longest railway tunnels in Norway, the Kvinesheitunnel and the Hægebostadtunnelen .

The Viking sword, named after the place where it was found, was found in the Snartemo district .

The Meteorological Institute ( Meteorologisk institutt ), Avinor and Statens vegvesen jointly operate a large weather radar on the Staksteinliknuten ( 631  moh. ) . This was completed in 2000 and covers the southern parts of Norway and the surrounding sea areas.

Today's Hægebostad municipality includes the former Hægebostad and Eiken municipalities. These were combined in 1963. From 1837 to 1915 they formed a common commune and were independent from 1916 to 1962.
