Avinor AS is a Norwegian state-owned company and Norway 's largest owner of airports .

The company operates 45 airports, twelve of which are owned by the Norwegian Armed Forces . Avinor also has security systems such as radar , radio and transmission systems as well as control centers.

history

Avinor emerged from the former Norwegian Luftfartsverket and was registered as a public limited company in 2003 . Avinor is administered by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communication (norw. Samferdselsdepartementet ).

As of 2018, seven of the 45 airports operated by Avinor were generating a profit ( Oslo-Gardermoen , Bergen , Bodø , Stavanger , Trondheim , Ålesund and Kristiansand ), which subsidized the operation of the remaining 38, mostly smaller airports; the remaining deficit (2018: NOK 1.2 billion) will be offset by the Norwegian government.

Field of activity

Avinor's field of activity includes air traffic control at airports, air traffic management in Norwegian airspace as well as the maintenance and operation of the technical infrastructure of flight navigation systems .

structure

Several areas are subordinate to the Air Navigation Service. One area controls air traffic at airports, the next over the Norwegian mainland and another over the North Atlantic . An additional area is the support of the technical infrastructure. There is also an area for consulting .

Technical systems

Air Navigation Services takes care of the technical equipment of airports and air traffic services. This includes

  • Air traffic management systems (ATS),
  • Communication systems (COM),
  • Flight navigation systems (NAV),
  • Flight control systems (SUR),
  • Flight information systems (AIS),
  • meteorological systems (MET).
