The Direction générale de l'aviation civile ( DGAC ; German civil aviation authority DGAC ) is the French supervisory authority for civil aviation with headquarters in Issy-les-Moulineaux , a suburb of Paris . It reports to the Ministry of Ecology, Energy and Sustainable Development (MEDDE). It is comparable to the Federal Aviation Office in Germany and is particularly responsible for various functions relating to civil aviation , such as:
- the air traffic control
- Support of research and development in the field of aircraft construction
- the classification of aircraft
- Prevention; The DGAC not only ensures the safety of people, but is also responsible for reducing environmental damage caused by air traffic
- Representatives of the DGAC sit on the steering committee of the Groupe d'études et d'informations sur les phénomènes aérospatiaux non identifiés (GEIPAN, in German study group for information on unidentified aerospace phenomena)
The DGAC was founded in 1946.
