history

The airport opened in 1955. The then 2,440 m long runway was built with funds from NATO and created with massive rock blasts in the hilly landscape.

In 1988 a new terminal building with eleven passenger boarding bridges was put into operation at the airport . Since then, the old terminal has been used to handle helicopter passengers, mainly in traffic to the oil rigs in the North Sea. The Bergen light rail was extended to the airport in April 2017. Another new terminal building with a capacity of 10 million passengers went into operation in August 2017. Bad weather approaches have been possible under CAT II conditions since October 2018.

Airlines and Destinations

Both regional and international destinations are served from Bergen. The main connection is the Bergen- Oslo route . In the ranking list of Europe's most frequently flown routes, this route was in seventh place in 2005, with an average of 54,471 passengers per week.
