The Fagernes Airport, Leirin ( IATA : VDB ; ICAO : ENFG ; Norwegian : Fagernes lufthavn ) was the commercial airport of Fagernes in the municipality of Nord-Aurdal in Fylke Innlandet . In 2016, the airport handled a total of 3,164 passengers and had 584 flight movements. It was closed to commercial air traffic on July 1, 2018.

history

Construction of the airport began in 1985. The opening took place on October 31, 1987. From November 4, 1987 Norsk Air offered the first official scheduled flights with an Embraer EMB 120 to Oslo and Bergen , which were discontinued the next year. After frequent changes of airlines offering scheduled flights, Air Norway has been offering scheduled flights to Oslo since 2008 . As has often been the case in the past, these flights are also subsidized by the Norwegian state.

Infrastructure

The airport has a 1,800 square meter terminal building, which includes a self-service café, a duty-free shop and a few car rental stations.

Location and transport links

The airport is located around four kilometers northeast of the town of Fagernes and can be reached from there via a nine-kilometer secondary road. Parking spaces are available free of charge. There is a shuttle taxi service to Fagernes on request. A ride costs NOK 40.

Airlines and Destinations

The airline Air Norway offers scheduled flights to Oslo-Gardermoen Airport twice a day from Monday to Friday . There is such a connection on Sundays. The aircraft used is a Fairchild Metro 23 with 19 seats.

The British airline Thomson Airways has announced charter flights to and from London Gatwick for the 2015/16 winter season . The flights are intended for skiing holidays in the surrounding winter resorts of Beitostølen (45min drive), Geilo (2h) and Hemsedal (1h 30min). The flights can be booked through the British tour operator Crystal Ski Holidays . These charter flights are flown with a Boeing 737-800 .

The airport was closed to commercial air traffic on July 1, 2018. However, it remains available for General Aviation .
