The Kirkenes-Høybuktmoen Airport is an airport in Norway and about is located ten kilometers west of the center of Kirkenes .
The airport has an asphalted, 2045 meter long runway (06/24) through which all civil aircraft movements are handled. A second runway (15/33), around 1200 meters long, which was planned in the military planning of the airport, has been laid out, but is currently not paved and is currently not in use.
history
During the Second World War , the German Air Force built the airport with two star-shaped runways (1000 m and 1200 m). A long-term user between February 1941 and August 1944 was the 1st squadron of the reconnaissance group 124 (1st (F) / 124), whose most frequently used aircraft type was the Ju 88D .
This first airport was destroyed when the Germans withdrew. Kirkenes civil airport was reopened in 1963.
