The Honningsvåg Airport is an airport in Norway . The airport is located in the municipality of Nordkapp and is the closest airport to the North Cape . The airport is connected to the North Cape and Honningsvåg via the European route 69 .

history

Invitation to the opening with the offer of a free flight

The first plans to establish a flight connection to the North Cape region existed as early as 1934. In that year, the municipality voted for a corresponding plan by the Narvik- based company Nord-Norge Eros for a concession for the Trondheim - Kirkenes route . In 1948 the community approved funds for the construction of a water airport. The Norwegian airline DNL then applied for state support for the yacht. However, this did not materialize. The Norwegian Ministry of Transport initially decided in 1949 not to include Honningsvåg in the Norwegian flight network. However, today's airport was finally opened in June 1977 . On October 29, 1990, a Twin Otter of the Luftforsvaret crashed in Honningsvåg Valan as a result of turbulence. Two crew members and one passenger died. In 2016, 25,410 passengers and 2,492 flight movements were counted.

The Widerøe airline connects the airport daily with Hammerfest and Tromsø and, more rarely, with Alta , Mehamn , Vadsø , Kirkenes , Berlevåg and Båtsfjord . Used De Havilland DHC-8 .
