Gabriel Timotheus Lütkemann (born March 6, 1723 in Stockholm , † March 20, 1795 in Visby ) was the royal Swedish chaplain to the court and bishop of Visby .

Life

Gabriel Timotheus Lütkemann was the son of the pastor at the German church in Stockholm and later general superintendent of Pomerania , Timotheus Lütkemann , and Ida Augusta Wedderkopp. He studied at the University of Uppsala and later at the University of Greifswald , where he received his master's degree in 1740 . After a study trip to various German universities, he became a lecturer in Greifswald in 1742 . He stayed there until 1744, when he was appointed court preacher to the Swedish heir to the throne, Adolf Friedrich . In 1750 he was in Greifswald to the doctor of theology doctorate . In 1753 he became a royal court preacher. From 1756 to 1758 he was the theological teacher of Prince Friedrich Adolf.

In 1758 Lütkemann took over the office of superintendent in Visby Abbey on Gotland . After the monastery was raised to the diocese of Visby in 1772 , it was consecrated as a bishop . In 1788 he was the only pastor in the history of the island to become Lieutenant Governor of Gotland. Because of the Russo-Swedish war , the invasion of Russian troops was feared at this time. Lütkemann's activity as Vice Governor was recognized by the government and the population.

Since 1760 he was a member of the Swedish Diet . He joined the noble party Hattarne , but did not miss an opportunity to make himself popular with the royal family.

Gabriel Timotheus Lütkemann was married twice. The first marriage in 1762 with Susanna Jacobsdotter von Boismann († June 14, 1774) was the son of Gabriel Timotheus (1766-1826), later vicar in Dalhem . In 1776 he married his second wife Maria von Segebaden (1757-1853) and had their daughter Maria Augusta (1781-1823) with her.
