The Statistiska centralbyrån runs the place as Dalhem och Hallvide.

history

The name was "Dalem" in the 14th century. The first part is “dal” , which could refer to the Swedish word “dalgång” for “valley” . The ending "hem" means "home" , "courtyard" or "hamlet" . The place is in the interior of Gotland, between two drained moor areas, Roma myr in the west and Holmmyr and Tallmyr in the east.

Dalhem Church

It is best known for its church and as a stop on the Gotlands Hesselby Jernväg museum railway . The place has a railway museum; the museum train "Dalhemståget" runs several days a week in the summer months. The area took off from the railroad at the beginning of the 20th century and lived on sugar beets processed by a factory in Roma .

The Dunbodi agricultural trade was opened in 1903. Thanks to intensive renovation work, the "Lanthandelsmuseet Dunbodi" shines again in its old splendor. Dunbodi is located near Dune in Dalhem.

The farm names in the parish of Dalhem are: Anderbåtels, Binge, Björkhage, Burge, Busarve, Dune, Dunegårde, Gandarve, Granskogs, Grinder, Hallfose, Hallvide, Harstäde, Hesselby, Kaungs, Malms, Munkebos, Myre, Nygårds, Näsungs., Prästägårds , Siggur, Slitegårds, Stenstugu, Suderbys, Vidunge. The parish ( Swedish socks ) Dalhem had 29.84 km² and 495 inhabitants at the end of 2010.

Stone crosses

Hans Krok's cross

Two medieval stone crosses ( Swedish minneskors ) can be found in the parish, one near the church and one at the school. The cross by the church is said to have been erected in 1430 at the place of death of priest Hans Krook . The cross by the school is meant to remind of a bride who lost her way on the way to church and was killed in the process, or of two people competing in a race, one of which was removed from the horse and died. Allegedly there should be a third cross. The two well-known crosses have round connections between the cross arms and are somewhat reminiscent of ring crosses.

Find places

The parish is known for Iron Age grave fields, stone setting, old stone paths and Sliprannestenar . A silver treasure from the Viking Age was found near Dalhem and the so-called Duneskatten , a treasure from the 14th century discovered at the end of the 19th century, in the Dune district . The treasure, buried between 1360 and 1370, consists of 122 items made of silver and gold, including pendants, bracelets, finger rings, belt fittings, necklaces, hooks, spoons, sequins, bowls, buckles and knives with decorated handles. It was lying in a heap in the remains of a wooden chest that also contained a broken scythe to protect the treasure.
