Vitvär

Vitvär is a fishing place ( Swedish fiskeläge ) in the parish ( Swedish socken ) Ardre north of Ljugarn on the east coast of the Swedish island of Gotland . The fishing site consists of around 20 huts that date from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The oldest huts are made of stone and roofs of thin sand and limestone bricks (in Swedish flistak ). Each boat berth had its own hut that offered four beds. Vitvär appeared in old house records from the late 18th century, but it wasn't shown as a fishing spot on an 1888 map. The fishing place was used seasonally by farmers from the parish of Ardre.

In the 20th century the huts were upgraded and they are now used for recreational purposes and the area even acts as a sight for bathers from Ljugarn on the way to Folhammar . The fishing in Vitvär consisted of lekströmming in autumn and spring, flounders during the period from the summer solstice ( Swedish midsommar ) to September, while June was suitable for stockfish ( Swedish torkfisk ) and the period from April to June for salmon .
