Stånga is a place ( Swedish tatort ) on the Swedish island of Gotland in the parish ( Swedish socks ) Stånga in the municipality of Gotland in the Gotland County in the historic Gotland Province . The place is 41 km south of Visby , 25 km south of Roma ( Roma monastery), 8 km northeast of Hemse and 15 km southwest of Ljugarn . Road 144 from Ljugarn to Hemse goes through Stånga.
Stånga is known for the Gotland Olympics and the Gumbalde golfklubb . Here was also the Runestone Kylverstenen which kylver stone , found one of the oldest in Sweden. The medieval church of Stånga is located in Stånga .

Environment (parish)
The parish of Stånga is predominantly forested in the north and arable farming in the south, for which areas of the drained Stånga myr bog are partly used.
To the west of the village is a burial ground with the Rojrhagen wheel grave . In the parish there are six small grave fields gravfalt, burnt mound sites ( Swedish skärvstenshögar ), remains of foundations ( Swedish husgrunder ), stone paths ( Swedish stensträngar ), so-called Sliprannor or Slipskårestenar , these are stones that were cut into straight slots of a few decimeters from earlier times Length, a hill fort ( Swedish fornborg ) and the Kylverstein with its runic inscription. The ruins of the medieval castle Lojsta Castle and the reconstructed Iron Age house Lojsta hall are also in the parish of Stånga. Two silver treasures from the Viking Age have been found in the parish.
Surname
The name was in the 14th century Stangum and probably contains the plural of the Swedish word stång ( German rod ).
