Hallshuk is a fishing site ( Swedish fiskeläge ) on the Swedish island of Gotland , which was or is used seasonally. Hallshuk is located north of the village of Kappelshamn on the western of the two northern peaks of Gotland. The area, which is mainly characterized by cliffs, has no natural harbor. Hallshuk is located in the Hall-Hangvar Nature Reserve , which is the largest on the island. The place is also protected as part of the Reich interests Hall due to its cultural and historical value.

Not only farmers from the area came to Hallshuk during the fishing season, but also fishermen from Visby , Västergarn and Gnisvärd . They lived there in heated booths, which there were in large numbers below the slope. The wooden stalls face the sea with their gables and have steep roofs. Behind them is the net garden for drying the nets . The fishing village is located on a bay that is protected from winds from the east and northeast by the cliffs. The fact that it was able to thrive despite unfavorable harbor conditions is due to the rich fishing grounds. In 1927 the present port with the jetties was built.

The small chapel, which Queen Kristina gave to the fishermen after Gotland became Swedish again in 1645 , also dates from the 17th century . The bell tower by the chapel was built at a later date.

Before Hallshuk was once one of Gotland's most profitable fishing areas. The years 1600–1680, 1747–1809 and 1877–1906 were lucrative fishing seasons for herring . In addition to the Baltic herring (herring), fishing for cod was just as important as catching flatfish . Later they went to salmon fishing .

Today Hallshuk is used by sport fishermen and is a tourist destination. Wine is also grown in Hallshuk.
