The Alta Airport is an airport in northern Norway . It is located six kilometers northeast of downtown Alta . The airport is operated by the Norwegian state - owned company Avinor .

history

Alta Airport opened in 1963. For the construction of the airport, land was artificially heaped up on the south bank of the Altafjord to avoid a construction in the hilly surrounding area.

Alta Airport is served by the airlines SAS , Norwegian and Widerøe (as of September 2013). There are direct flight connections to Båtsfjord , Hammerfest , Honningsvåg , Kirkenes , Lakselv , Mehamn , Oslo , Sørkjosen , Tromsø and Vadsø ; in addition to charter flights to Burgas offered.
