Matt Chessé

Matthew Burke Chessé (born October 27, 1965 in San Francisco , California ) is an American film editor .

Life

Matthew Burke Chessé grew up in a family of painters, puppeteers, and stage actors in the San Francisco Bay Area . Originally, he wanted to be a writer, so he graduated from San Francisco State University in English literature and acting. Since he was already working in film during his college days, he then received an invitation from Peter Kagan to edit industrial and advertising films for him at Stiefel and Co. Thereby he got to know the editor Lauren Zuckerman , for whom he later worked, before he got to know the German-Swiss director Marc Forster and for the first time directed a film editing of his drama Everything Put Together independently . With their third joint film, the literary adaptation When dreams learn to fly , Chessé received an Oscar nomination for Best Editing in 2005 . He then edited six more films for Forster : Stay , Weird As Fiction and Kite Runner and James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace , Machine Gun Preacher and World War Z. Another collaboration followed in 2018 with Christopher Robin .

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
