Gael García Bernal

Gael García Bernal (born November 30, 1978 in Guadalajara , Jalisco ) is a Mexican actor .
life and work
Gael García Bernal started his career at a young age in various theater plays, together with his parents José Ángel García and Patricia Bernal, who are also actors. Her first television appearances followed at the age of fourteen, for example in 1992 in the Mexican soap El Abuelo y yo in the role of Daniel . In 1997 he began his studies at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London , making him the first Mexican to be accepted into the famous drama school. After studying there for three years, he dropped out to play the role of Octavio in Alejandro González Iñárritu's internationally acclaimed production Amores Perros , which paved the first steps for an international career. This was followed by the tragic comedy Y Tu Mamá También - Lust for Life , in which García Bernal shone alongside his longtime friend and colleague Diego Luna , and the controversial Mexican scandal film The Temptation of Padre Amaro , which shows the corruption of the Latin American Catholic Church. The film was both praised and panned by critics . In any case, it is certain that despite protests and bomb threats, it attracted millions of people to the cinemas in Mexico and thus became an absolute blockbuster. For García Bernal himself, the portrayal in this film almost meant excommunication from the Catholic Church by the Vatican , which saw in this film a threat to the Catholic Church, especially in Central and South America. It remained a threat, however.
In 2004 Pedro Almodóvar's film Bad Education followed , in which Gael García Bernal can be seen in the role of an ambitious actor. He slips into the tragic role of his deceased brother in order to make a career, and in the film-within-a-film sequences in that of his transsexual brother. In the same year García Bernal mimed, who is also English besides Spanish, French and Italian speaking, the Che Guevara in The Motorcycle Diaries by Walter Salles and harvested for its presentation great praise. Both films were shown at the Cannes International Film Festival . In 2006 he was part of the acting ensemble of Alejandro González Iñárritus Oscar- nominated drama Babel, alongside Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett . In 2007, García Bernal was a jury member of the Berlin Film Festival, chaired by US filmmaker Paul Schrader .
Gael García Bernal has a son (2009) and a daughter (2011).
In 2005 Gael García Bernal founded the documentary festival Ambulante together with Diego Luna, Pablo Cruz and Elena Fortes. With the aim of supporting and distributing the documentary. Ambulante travels for three months each year in collaboration with CANANA, Cinépolis y el Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia to various locations in Mexico, South America and North America (California). The vision of the project is to create a critical, empathic, open and committed society. Ambulante also brings the documentary to places with poor access to exhibitions and film screenings.
Social Commitment
García Bernal has been an ambassador for the development aid organization Oxfam since 2005 . He is particularly active in the Oxfam Make Trade Fair campaign . In 2009 Gael García Bernal supported the human rights organization Survival International by presenting one of their t-shirts.
