Lars Sven "Lasse" Hallström (born June 2, 1946 in Stockholm ) is a two-time Oscar-nominated Swedish film director and screenwriter .

Life

His career began in school when a Swedish television station broadcast a short documentary film he had made. Hallström then continued to work for this station and for entertainment programs on Danish television. He was also director, author, cameraman and to some extent producer of his works.

He became internationally known for the film about the pop group ABBA (for which he also made almost all of the promotional videos) and for Mein Leben als Hund , which received Oscar nominations in the categories of Director and Best Screenplay in 1987 . His later films Gilbert Grape - Somewhere in Iowa and God's Work & Devil's Contribution were also nominated for an Oscar .

Lasse Hallström is married to the Swedish actress Lena Olin for the second time .
