Lluís-Anton Baulenas i Setó (born September 21, 1958 in Barcelona ) is an actor, translator, literary critic and writer who writes in the Catalan language .

Life

Baulenas was born on September 21, 1958 in the Sant Andreu de Palomar district of Barcelona ( Catalonia ). He studied Catalan philology . After graduating, he worked as a teacher for Catalan at a high school until 1987. Then he decided to devote himself entirely to writing. He wrote his first theater works, which he staged himself and also co-performed as an actor. However, he had his greatest success with his prose works. He made his debut in 1987 with the anthology of short stories Qui al Cel Escup ("Who Spits To Heaven"). On the occasion of the Dutch translation of his novel El nas de Mussolini , the literary critic Anne Jongeling wrote that Baulenas kept proving that he could distill a great story from small facts.

The director Ventura Pons filmed three of his works: Anita no perd el tren (2001 "Anita did not miss the train"), based on the novel Bones Obres ("Good Works"), Amor Idiota (2001, "Idiote Liebe") after the novel of the same name and A la deriva (2009, "Auf Abdrift "), based on the book Àrea de Servei, whose screenplay was always written by Baulenas.

Baulenas is also valued for his translations into Catalan: Cal dir-ho? by Eugène Labiche , Dos en un balancí by William Gibson , El llarg viatge d'un dia vers la nit by Eugene O'Neill and other works by Jean Cocteau , Albert Camus , Boris Vian and Friedrich Dürrenmatt . He also writes for the daily newspapers Avui , El País , La Vanguardia and El Periódico de Catalunya, among others .
