Orlando Luebbert

Orlando Lübbert (born December 1, 1945 in Santiago de Chile , Chile ) is a Chilean film director and screenwriter .

Life

After graduating from high school, Lübbert attended the Universidad de Chile , where he studied architecture . During this time he began to write poems and stories and worked experimentally with slide and tape editing. In 1968 he joined the Socialist Party of Chile .

In 1972 Lübbert was assistant director for the documentary The First Year of Patricio Guzmán , his first active activity in film. After the 1973 coup , Lübbert fled Chile and initially lived in Mexico and Cuba and later went to West Berlin . He made his directorial debut together with Gastón Ancelovici in 1975 with the documentary Fists in Front of the Cannon , for which he was awarded a special prize at the 1976 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival .

From 1977 to 1979 Lübbert worked as a director at DEFA . In 1978 his feature film The Transition was made . He also continued to make documentaries, including the film Stay on Earth, premiered in 1979, in cooperation with DEFA, and the German documentary Korrekt in 1993, or the soul in times of war , which Lübbert also produced. Lübbert was a lecturer in Latin American cinema at the Free University of Berlin and a member of the German Writers' Association . In 1995 he returned to Chile.

His greatest international success to date was the 2001 Chile-produced comedy A Taxi for Three (Taxi Para Tres) , which won numerous international awards, including an MTV Movie Award , the Jury Prize at the Miami Film Festival and the Golden Shell at the festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián . He was also nominated for a Goya in 2002.

Lübbert heads the film school at the Instituto de la Comunicación e Imagen of the Universidad de Chile as a professor . He lives in Santiago de Chile.
