Young Artist Award / Best Actor in a Feature Film
The Young Artist Award for Best Actor in a Feature Film is one of the awards given annually in the United States by the Young Artist Foundation , a non-profit organization founded in 1979 . It is aimed at actors under the age of 21 who have excelled in a leading role in a feature film . From 1979 to 2000, the Youth in Film Award for Best Actor in a Feature Film , as well as numerous other variations, was known over the years, although the basic idea behind the award has not changed since its inception. The winners will be determined in a secret ballot by the 125 members of the Young Artist Association as well as previous Youth-in-Film and Young Artist Award winners.
history
Over the past 34 years, the Young Artist Association has given a total of 43 awards in the Best Actor in a Feature Film category to 40 different actors. The winners of the award will receive the traditional Young Artist Award statuette, a gold-plated figure of a man with a five-pointed star above his head, reminiscent of a small Oscar statuette the size of a child. The first to win was Dennis Christopher , who was honored at the 1979 Youth in Film Awards for his role in Four Crazy Guys - We All Can Make Us, No One Can Make Us . The last winner so far was Tom Holland , who was honored for his role in The Impossible at the Young Artist Awards 2013 .
In the history of the award, the category of Best Actor in a Feature Film has been split several times. Up until the 3rd award ceremony in 1981, all actors could be nominated for the category, regardless of whether the role was viewed as a main or a supporting role. At the 1982 Youth in Film Awards , due to this fact, the Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film category was introduced as a separate award. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the category was split into three awards, 1987 , 1989 and 1994 . During these three years, the Young Artist Association divided the category into four sub-categories, Best Male Superstar in a Feature Film , Best Actor in a Feature Film (Drama) , Best Actor in a Feature Film (Comedy or Fantasy), and Best Actor in a Feature Film (Horror or Mystery) . However, after the 15th award, the organization merged these sub-categories back into one.
Starting with the Youth in Film Awards in 1993 , the organization split the category one more time, introducing a category for young film actors under the age of ten. The category of Best Actor in a Feature Film - Ten Years or Younger has become an integral part of the Young Artist Awards and is still awarded today (as of 2013). Despite the creation of a category for actors aged ten or younger, some leading actors under ten will continue to be nominated in that category.
Records
While the Young Artist Association nowadays has strict requirements regarding the age of nominees for a Young Artist Award, they originally did not have any particular age restrictions. Today, candidates eligible for a Young Artist Award must be between the ages of five and 21 at the time of filming for that project. However, the oldest winner of the award for Best Actor in a Feature Film is Dennis Christopher , who was 23 years old at the time of his win for Four Crazy Guys - We Can All Can Do It, No One Can Make Us when the awards were first presented . The youngest winner is Mason Gamble , who was eight at the time of his win for Dennis at the 1993 Youth in Film Awards .
The list below is a list of records of the top nominees and winners in the Best Actor in a Feature Film category . The winners and nominees in the other film categories, such as Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film , Best Actor in a Feature Film - Ten Years or Younger, and Best Lead Actor in an International Feature Film , are not counted.

Winners and nominees
For the first 23 awards, the application period spanned two calendar years due to the many television awards that are also presented by the Young Artist Association. For example, the first award ceremony, held in November 1979, honored young artists who appeared in television series and in feature films released between September 1, 1978 and August 31, 1979. Starting with the 24th Young Artist Awards, which took place in March 2003, the application period was extended to a full calendar year, from January 1st to December 31st, similar to the Oscars .
The films listed below are given with their German distribution title (if this can be determined), followed by the foreign-language original title in brackets in italics. The original title is not mentioned if the German and foreign-language film titles are identical. The winners are highlighted in bold type first.
