Henry Jackson Thomas (born September 9, 1971 in San Antonio , Texas ) is an American actor .

Career

In his role as Elliott in ET , Henry Thomas became known around the world at the age of 11 and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Young Actor . In the following years Thomas was seen in various children's roles, mostly in fantasy films, including the lead role in the Australian film The Ghostbusters in 1986 until he appeared in the 1989 movie Valmont , directed by Miloš Forman . In 1994 he played alongside Brad Pitt in Legends of Passion . As a result, Henry Thomas was seen in both psychological thrillers such as Lethal Obsession and in various TV productions, such as a TV version of Moby Dick . He was also a member of the cast in the 2002 gangster epic Gangs of New York by Martin Scorsese . In 2013 he was seen in the television series Betrayal . In 2015, he played founding father John Adams in the miniseries Sons of Liberty .

Private life

Thomas was married to the German actress Marie Zielcke , but divorced her since 2007. The couple has one child.
