Conspiracy (original title The Girl in the Spider's Web ) is a crime film / thriller by Fede Alvarez . It is a cinematic sequel to the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson and is based on the novel Conspiracy (original title Det som inte dödar oss ) by David Lagercrantz . In October 2018 the film opened the Festa del Cinema di Roma and celebrated its international premiere here.

A flashback shows Lisbeth escaping from her father while her sister Camilla stays behind.

Lisbeth is currently being contacted by the scientist Frans Balder. He asks her to steal his work at the NSA. It is a control for nuclear missiles. After completing the job, she is attacked and pursued by Camilla's people. Frans is killed trying to protect his son August. Lisbeth escapes with him, but is followed up and arrested at the end because only August knows the codes for the controls. Lisbeth frees Plague with the help of her friend and NSA agent Edwin August and confronts her sister. She reveals her lack of understanding why Lisbeth never came back for her and takes her own life by jumping over a gap.

The production was funded by the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung with 500,000 euros, by the Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg with 750,000 euros, by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg with 600,000 euros, HessenFilm und Medien with 400,000 euros and the Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein with 100,000 euros .

Filming began on January 15, 2018 in Studio Babelsberg and also took place in Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig Airport and Stockholm. Pedro Luque acted as cameraman . The film music is composed by Roque Baños . The soundtrack for the film, which comprises a total of 31 pieces of music, was released in autumn 2018 as a download and on CD.

A first trailer was published in early June 2018, a second in September 2018. On October 24, 2018, the film opened the Festa del Cinema di Roma and celebrated its international premiere here. There it is shown in the official competition. The film was released in US cinemas on November 9, 2018 and in German cinemas on November 22, 2018.

Reviews

The film critic Antje Wessels believes that Fede Alvarez staged two modern milestones in horror cinema with Don't Breathe and the remake of Evil Dead , and that his sense of dark aesthetics was expressed in different ways in both works. Even conspiracy own again this strength: "If the camera glides here through the snowy landscape of the Swedish hinterland, or optimal use cornered in an old factory building in the final, and thus everything again appears extrabeklemmend possible, then come here clearly the strengths of the virtuoso filmmaker by. Overall, Conspiracy works very well as a fast-paced, solidly constructed and, in parts, visually powerful thriller, says Grüter: “It deals with archaic motifs - revenge, incest, justice and the temptations of limitless power. The clear social criticism of the first three books is largely absent. The modern way of life with its dependence on a computer technology that is hardly understood is not a topic in the film, but only a backdrop. "
