LaKeith Lee "Keith" Stanfield (born August 12, 1991 in San Bernardino , California ) is an American film actor and rapper .

Life

Stanfield was born in San Bernardino in 1991 and grew up in the California cities of Riverside and Victorville . He says his family was broken up and he describes the circumstances in which he grew up as poor. At the age of 14, when he joined his school's theater company, Stanfield decided to become an actor. He attended the John Casablancas Modeling and Career Center in Los Angeles and began his acting career with commercials. His first film role was Stanfield in the short film Short Term 12 and the movie based on it Drama Short Term 12 - Silent Heroes from the year 2013. Stanfield played in the movies Mark or Marcus and was for his performance as part of the Independent Spirit Awards as Best Supporting Actor nomination . In 2014, the science fiction horror film The Purge: Anarchy and the Martin Luther King biopic Selma , in which he played civil rights activist Jimmie Lee Jackson , hit theaters . In 2015 Stanfield starred in the role of Bug in the film Dope and in the biopic Straight Outta Compton about the hip-hop group NWA , in which he portrayed Snoop Dogg . In 2016, Snowden , a biography of Oliver Stone in which he played Patrick Haynes, was released in US cinemas . Stanfield later got the role of Darius on the side of Donald Glover in the television series Atlanta . He played Max in the biopic Memoria by Vladimir de Fontenay and Nina Ljeti , which hit US cinemas in April 2015. Stanfield was given a bigger role in Live Cargo , which premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival . In January 2017, the film Get Out , in which he played Andrew Logan King, was presented at the Sundance Film Festival . The film Crown Heights , which was also shown at the Sundance Film Festival, stars Stanfield and portrays Colin Warner, an immigrant who lived in Crown Heights and was innocent in prison for murder for 20 years.

In late June 2020, Stanfield became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
