Greg's Diary 2 - Are there any problems? (Original title: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules ) is an American literary film adaptation by director David Bowers from 2011 . The film is based on the second part of the book series Gregs Diary by Jeff Kinney .
action
Greg Heffley is a year older and in seventh grade. But otherwise everything stays the same. As in the previous year, he is the target of the schoolyard rowdy and his brother Rodrick. It doesn't help that his mother offers a reward for getting along well with Rodrick. Then there is the new student Holly Hills. Greg has fallen in love with her, but she doesn't look at him. But suddenly everything turns for the better when Greg helps his brother out of a difficult situation. The relationship between the brothers has improved.
Differences from the book
- In the book Rupert got injured by Greg and therefore Greg has to appear on stage as a magician together with Scotty Douglas. In the film, Rupert gets the idea to act as a magician with Greg.
- Holly Hills only has a supporting role in the sketch that Greg wrote in the book. Her role is definitely more important in film.
- In the book, a recording of the talent show is posted on the Internet by an unspecified person. In the film, however, Greg is the one who posts the recording on the internet.
- In the book, Frank waits by the garbage cans until Rodrick's performance is over, but in the film, "Dancing Mommy" (Susan) is filmed by him.
- During Rodrick's party, in Rodrick's book, Greg was locked in the basement all night, but in the film, Greg manages to use a ruse to still be at the party.
- In the book, Rodrick and Greg have more arguments, but in the movie they're friends.
- The film doesn't reveal who won, but the book does.
- In the book, Rodrick is allowed to participate in the talent competition, in the film he is almost not allowed to participate.

reception
criticism
The film received mixed reviews. At Rotten Tomatoes , the film gets a rating of 47 percent.
The Washington Post's Michael O'Sullivan primarily criticized the script: “The problem isn't really the actors' acting skills, but rather the script. Too much time was wasted on making the characters cute and cute instead of plausible. ”( English “ The problem doesn't really lie in the acting but in the writing. There's too much effort expended on making the kids cute and cuddly, instead of plausible. " ) Mary Pols of Time Magazine said," Greg's Diary 2 - Are you having problems? is full of slapstick. "( English " Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is full of lively slapstick. " )
The film was rated two out of five stars by the online portal Filmstarts :
“What just reads like a premise is actually the story of the Greg sequel, which works its way from one subplot to the next without ever targeting a larger whole. To call this episodic would be a euphemism. Although there are many indications that Greg's childlike, clumsy wooing for the favor of the class beauty Holly is the central theme, in the end her appearance remains too sporadic to ever take an interest in the character. When Greg's second screen appearance comes to a happy end after 99 minutes, he and Rodrick will have learned some rather shallow insights into brotherly cohesion and intra-family loyalty, Holly will finally know his name and the young audience will have laughed heartily a few times. Parents will at least dismiss Greg's Diary 2 visit as a nice afternoon at the cinema and will have already forgotten on the way home. It may not have been a gain, but neither was it a painful loss. "
The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating particularly valuable.
