people

  • Gregory Heffley , known as Greg, is the main character in the book series. He is 11-14 years old and faces difficulties in junior high school . Greg is lazy, selfish, a little greedy and finds that adults are not to be taken seriously. His best friend is called Rupert.
  • Rupert Jefferson is Greg's best friend, but Greg often wonders how they got to be friends in the first place. He has funny interests for his age, such as dinoblaster action figures. When he moved around Greg's area, he made knock jokes. In the English version his name is Rowley. In the course of the books he gets together with Abigail, but she separates from him again because she has only used him to win her ex-boyfriend back for herself. His parents seem reasonably rich (his father owns a pool) so he's a little spoiled. Every now and then the friendship between the two is terminated, always by Rupert himself. In the end, however, they always reconcile the two. Unlike Greg, he has a pretty good relationship with his parents.
  • Frank and Susan Heffley are Greg's parents. Frank always wants Greg to play sports and has a keen interest in the American Civil War . Susan tries to be a good mother and wife, but she is often embarrassing to Greg (e.g., she brought Greg his schoolbag in fitness clothes ).
  • Manni Heffley is Greg's little brother, but he always gets special treatment from his parents and is never punished and keeps breaking Greg's things, which Greg gets upset about. He is 2-6 years old. In the English version his name is Manny.
  • Rodrick Heffley is Greg's bigger brother. He is 15-18 years old. He has a heavy metal band that is called “Folle Vindl” (full diaper) because of his lack of spelling skills. The name of the band is Löded Diper in the English version . Rodrick dreams of becoming famous with his band and finding the love of his life (Heather Hills).
  • Fregley is Greg's behavioral neighbor. If Greg wants to visit Rupert, he has to pass Fregley, who always annoys him. In the 2nd, 6th, 9th and 12th volume he does not appear, in the 1st volume he is called Finley.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson are Rupert's parents. Mr Jefferson is an architect, so he seems to have a lot of money. Hence the Jefferson family is a member of a golf club. However, Mr. Jefferson doesn't like Greg because Greg often plays pranks on him. Mrs. Jefferson seems to like Greg and his mother unlike Mr. Jefferson. She goes to great lengths to raise her son. For example, she wants Rupert to always eat healthy. That's how she always cuts vegetables into his brownies.
  • Sweetie (actually Sweetheart ) is Greg's dog. Sweetie isn't very keen on him. Instead, he's almost in love with Susan, whom Sweetie doesn't pay much attention to. After a while he is taken to Greg's grandma and then not mentioned very often. Apparently she is overfeeding him because in Volume 8, according to Greg, he "looks like a beach ball with legs".
  • Mike Lerner is a relatively young boy who, as Greg's classmate, tends to play a secondary role when he is not "used" for pranks (for example: the "invisible Mike") . His name is Chirag Gupta in the English version .
  • Holly Hills is one of the most beautiful girls in Greg's grade. Greg is in love with her, but whenever he tries to speak to her, he doesn't dare to or something comes up. Once Greg was mad at her for calling him Fregley .
  • Heather / Heidi Hills is Holly's big sister. Not much is said about her in the book except that, like her little sister, she is also very beautiful. She had an intermittent job as Rupert's babysitter in Volume 2. In Volume 4 she is the lifeguard in the public swimming pool, and Rodrick is in love with her.
  • Bruce / Bryce Anderson is the girls' favorite boy in Greg's class, despite the fact that he still made fun of her in elementary school. He has many “friends” around him who always run after him. He often makes fun of her. Greg is jealous of him.
  • Greg's Grandpa / Grandpa Heffley is the grandpa of Greg, Manni and Rodrick, but doesn't have a real name in the book. He is rarely mentioned in the book. He is Frank's father and has two other sons, Joe and Gary. By the way, Gregory is his favorite grandson, although he feels his grandfather is embarrassing, yet he always tries to please him. In contrast to his eldest son Frank, he is a cozy, humorous man. His wife could have been "Nana", who is only mentioned in volume 11. In Volume 10, Greg and his grandpa have to work together once to remove a water stain. Despite his age, he tries again and again to establish relationships with other senior citizens in his old people's home, the so-called “retirees' paradise”.
  • Greg's grandma is Greg, Manni's, and Rodrick's grandmother. It is rarely mentioned. Her name is unknown. She likes to play bingo and has Manni as her favorite grandson. She is Susan's mother. In the course of the books she is given by Frank Sweetie as a present. Besides Susan, she has four other daughters. Uncle Charlie, mentioned several times, appears to be her son. Her father is the widowed "Peepaw".
  • Gammie Heffley , the great-grandmothers of Manni, Gregory, and Rodrick, and the grandmother of Frank, Joe, and Gary, and the mother of Grandpa Heffley, is 95 years old and the oldest person in the book. But it is not mentioned very often. Apparently she is called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by her first name instead of “grandma” / “great grandma”. Her late husband was named Chester. She has lived in the same big house since childhood.
  • Joe Heffley is Frank's younger brother and the second son of Grandpa Heffley and thus Rodrick, Greg and Manni's uncles. He comes exactly after his father, he's mostly easy-going and humorous. He has four children, all of whom are barely older than Manni.
  • Gary Heffley is the youngest son of Grandpa Heffley. He appears to be significantly younger than his brothers, is unemployed and hopes to win the lottery. Despite his young age, he was married four times. He once moved temporarily into Frank's house after his apartment was given notice.
  • Patty Farrell is one of Greg's classmates. She doesn't like Greg and is mean to many.
  • Abigail Brown is a classmate of Greg and Rupert. She, Greg, and Rupert went to the junior high school Valentine's Day ball together . However, Greg believed she had chickenpox and freaked out. She broke up with her boyfriend who lied to her. She and Rupert have been together since Valentine's Ball. It occurs only in volumes 7 and 8. Since the incident on Valentine's Ball, she can't stand Greg.
  • The Snellas are an extended family who lived next to the Heffleys. The names of the children are: Simon, Saul, Sam, Scott and Seth. After Volume 5 they don't perform anymore because they moved due to an action by Greg. Mr. Alexander now lives in her house.
  • The Mingo kids are children who attack Greg in the forest. They only appear in volumes 8 and 10.
  • Alex Aruda is a nerd from Greg's class. It is only mentioned in the first three parts.
  • Mr. Schwarzbart is the father of the family that the Heffleys meet on their road trips. You don't know what his real last name is. His family is ruthless. In the middle of the night, his children keep driving a cleaning car against the wall in the motel.
