Steve Zahn (born November 13, 1967 in Marshall , Minnesota ) is an American actor .

Life

Steve Zahn is the son of a Lutheran pastor . He graduated from Cooper Senior High School in New Hope , Minnesota , then graduated from Harvard University .

Zahn made his actor debut in the lead role in the play Biloxi Blues by Neil Simon . Since 1989 he has played at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge , two years later he moved to New York City . Zahn became famous for his role in Reality Bites ( 1994 ), in which he played alongside Winona Ryder , Ethan Hawke and Janeane Garofalo . His role in the crime comedy Happy, Texas (1999) earned him a special award from the Sundance Film Festival in 1999 and the Independent Spirit Award and a nomination for the Golden Satellite Award in 2000 . In the film comedy Unterwegs mit Jungs (2001) he played the drug addict husband of Beverly Donofrio ( Drew Barrymore ). In the western comedy Bandidas (2006) he played the male lead alongside Penélope Cruz and Salma Hayek . For the role in the war film Rescue Dawn (2006) he was nominated in 2008 for the Independent Spirit Award and for the Chlotrudis Award . His work includes more than 65 film and television productions.

Zahn has been married to actress Robyn Peterman since 1994 and has two children.
