action

The young Moon Blake lives with his father Oliver completely self-sufficient in the forests of Alabama . The grumpy father is an absolute role model for him. When construction machinery clears the forest nearby to build a house for a lawyer, the mood grows tense. Shortly before Oliver dies after an accident in the wilderness, he advises Moon to turn his back on Alabama and make his way to Alaska .

After Moon buried his father, the next day he meets the lawyer Mr. Wellington, the new landowner, who, however, secretly informs Constable Sanders over the phone . Moon escapes when he arrives, but is caught by him a little later and put in a children's home. There he met the sick Kit and Hal, among others. Together they come up with the plan to break out one night, which they succeed. The three boys hide in the forest, and Moon passes on his great knowledge of the wilderness.

One morning, Hal went missing after going to see his alcoholic father. When winter unexpectedly returns, Kit is far worse every day, so Moon lays him on a street where he is later found. Meanwhile, Constable Sanders literally chases Moon, failing miserably several times. Moon gets help from Hal and his father.

Constable Sanders meanwhile accuses the boy of several offenses, which he never committed. Mr. Wellington helps Moon and successfully defends him in court. The subsequent visit to Kit in the hospital is not a happy one. Kit died of his long and serious illness, but had the happiest days of his life with Moon. Mr. Wellington has received surprising contact with Moon's uncle Mike, who has been looking for his nephew for a long time and wants to take him in. Mike introduces him to his wife Sarah and his two children Alice and David, who take him in lovingly. Thus, Moon's lonely life takes a happy turn.

criticism

"A film adaptation of a youth novel that, despite some serious scenes, tells the story of the" wild child "in a very entertaining way."

“Entertaining, suspenseful, neither sentimental nor silly youthful adventure drama with thoroughly funny moments about a free-born boy who does not let himself be told by super villains like village sheriff Clint Howard (" Blubberella "). Hard topics are not left out, John Goodman shines in a court scene, but the heart of the film beats in the turbulent chases in the wilderness, where the boy shows the cop in a Rambo-like manner where the gavel is. Great fun for kids that parents don't need to be afraid of either. "
