The cemetery chapel of the Sorrowful Mother is a Roman Catholic chapel in the market town of Semriach in Styria .

The chapel is located next to the parish church of St. Aegydius in the former cemetery in Semriach.

history

The chapel was built in 1375. This was indicated by an inscription that has not survived today. It was originally dedicated to St. Michael . In 1884 she was dedicated to the Sorrowful Mother . The crypt served as a charnel house until 1968 . A restoration took place in 1963.

description

The chapel has a rectangular, two-bay interior that was vaulted around 1650. The apse with three-quarters closure and the circular crypt still come from the medieval building. In the church there are: a picture of St. Michael from the middle of the 17th century, a Vespers painting painted in 1719 , and a crucifix from 1510. The door grilles are dated 1884.
