Joel Courtney
Joel Courtney (born January 31, 1996 in Monterey , California ) is an American actor , best known for his leading role as Joseph "Joe" Lamb in the movie Super 8 .
life and career
Joel Courtney was born in January 1996 in the California coastal city of Monterey . He grew up with his older brother and older sister in Moscow , Idaho , USA , because his parents work there as teachers in a private school . At the age of fourteen he moved to live with his brother in Los Angeles that summer . There he attended an acting school, which sparked his interest in acting. He then went to audition for Paramount Pictures ' science fiction film Super 8 , which JJ Abrams wrote and directed. In the film, he played alongside Elle Fanning and Kyle Chandler the role of the protagonist Joseph "Joe" Lamb , one of five teenagers who want to make a zombie film in 1979 and thus discover a secret military project. For this role, Courtney won the Saturn Award for Best Young Actor and received numerous other nominations, including one for Best Actor in a Feature Film at the Young Artist Awards . Each was followed by a guest appearance in a two-part episode of RL Stine's Mystery - Horror - television series R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour . In August 2011 he made the film Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn in Bulgaria , starring Tom Sawyer alongside Jake T. Austin . In 2011 he also appeared in front of the camera as Nick Madsen alongside Isabelle Fuhrman for the film The Between . The release of these two films took place in 2013.
In 2018, Joel Courtney starred in the film The Kissing Booth . Two years later he was also featured in The Kissing Booth 2 .
