Christopher Atkins (2009)

Christopher Atkins (* 21st February 1961 in Rye , New York as Christopher Bomann ) is an American actor .

Life

While attending high school, he worked as a lifeguard and sailing instructor, where, under pressure from a friend, he went to audition for The Blue Lagoon . He prevailed against 4,000 competitors. Until then he had no interest or experience in the acting field.

Atkins graduated from Denison University in Ohio . He made his acting debut at the age of 18 in The Blue Lagoon (1980) in which he played one of the leading roles alongside Brooke Shields . The film, which was originally supposed to cost “only” $ 750,000, eventually devoured a sum of $ 4.5 million. Worldwide, however, more than $ 58 million was recovered. The blue lagoon is a classic romantic love and adventure film. Atkins appeared in full nudity in this film, at a time when male nudity was rare in movies. The role allowed him to show off his swimming skills and he became the teen idol of the 80s. After the success of the film, Atkins was recognized everywhere, but also ostracized. For this role, he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Young Actor and the Young Artist Award . In addition, this film made him one of the most popular male stars in the gay scene around the world in the 1980s (still quite revealing for its time).

In the film drama Ein Himmlischer Lümmel (1983) he played a leading role alongside Lesley Ann Warren , for which he received the Golden Raspberry . That same year, Atkins starred as Sue Ellen's lover Peter Richards in the US television series Dallas for several episodes . For his role in the film The Great Challenge (1989), in which he played alongside Roy Scheider , he again received the Golden Raspberry. He received other leading roles in the television film I Love a Woman Killer (1990) and in the action film Smoke n Lightnin (1995).

Atkins has been married to actress Lyn Barron since 1985 and has two children. The marriage was divorced in 2007. He owns Rocky River Outdoor Products .
