The dressage riding horse Harley breaks out of its owner Potter's stable one night. After roaming the wilderness for some time, it comes to the Miller- Ranch , where 10-year-old Sarah takes care of the animal. She nurses it back to health and begins to train for a horse show under the guidance of her aunt Sharon.

When a photo of Sarah and Harley is published after the tournament, Potter recognizes his horse and demands it back. The sad Sarah reluctantly gives the animal back. However, Potter later realizes that Harley is no longer suitable for his purposes. He decides to sell it, whereupon Sarah's father buys Harley for his daughter.
