Rance Howard (actually Harold Rance Beckenholdt ; born November 17, 1928 in Duncan , Oklahoma - † November 25, 2017 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Rance Howard was born in Oklahoma to Engel Beckenholdt and Ethel Cleo Tomlinist. He worked in over 250 film and television productions. His best-known roles are that of Henry Broomhauer in the television series My Friend Ben and that of David Sheridan , father of Captain John Sheridan in the science fiction television series Babylon 5 . He made his debut in 1956 in Death Arrow on the Missouri . He was often seen as a pastor or preacher, as a sheriff or western marshal.

Wives

Howard was married twice. From his first marriage to Jean Speegle Howard from 1949 until her death on September 2, 2000, the two sons, director and actor Ron Howard and Clint Howard come . He was the grandfather of actresses Bryce Dallas Howard and Paige Howard .

On June 29, 2001, he married his second wife, Judy O'Sullivan, who died in January 2017. He himself died in November 2017, a week after his 89th birthday.
