Voices of the toy figures (selection):

Small Soldiers is an American feature film released in 1998 . Directed by Joe Dante .

action

After the defense company Globotech, led by Gil Mars, bought Irwin Wayfair and Larry Benson's small toy company, both were forced to develop interactive action figures . In addition to six soldiers of the Commando Elite , who were designed by Larry to appeal to a somewhat action-oriented crowd of children, half a dozen so-called Gorgonites are produced, peaceful creature figures that were developed by Irwin to get through their urge to research and find a way back to theirs Homeland Gorgon to spark childish curiosity about targeted scientific interest. In order to ingratiate himself with his new boss, Larry quickly and without investigating highly developed microprocessors , which were originally given in development by the Department of Defense. These processors represent a new type of artificial intelligence that is capable of independent further development; however, they were discarded because they are not shielded against EMP . The real danger posed by the chips, however, is that they further develop their intelligence based on their basic programming and thus, depending on the specification, tend to stubbornly pursue a certain goal.

The 13-year-old Alan Abernathy succeeds in persuading the driver of a delivery truck to get a few prototypes of the Gorgonites and the Commando Elite before the public sales date in order to give his father's toy store, which is not audience-oriented, a little boost. He takes a Gorgonite named Archer home with him and hides the others in his parents' toy store in New Braunfels . In the evening Alan is amazed to find that the action figure can speak, move and even act independently. When he comes to the store in the morning, Alan is horrified to find that the other dolls have freed themselves from their packaging and devastated the toy store. Archer explains to Alan that the Commando Elite were programmed to destroy the Gorgonites, but initially there is no trace of the Gorgonites to be found. Only later does he find her in the toy shop's dumpster and take her home with him.

The Commandos quickly establish Alan's connection with the Gorgonites. After a first attempt to squeeze the whereabouts of the Gorgonites out of Archer fails, the elite soldiers kidnap Alan's neighbor and loved one, Christy Fimple, which makes Alan fight the Commando Elite. With the help of his friends, Alan can free them, but then the Commando Elite move with heavy weapons that they have assembled themselves against the Gorgonites, the Abernathys, the Fimples and Larry and Irwin (who have since learned of the danger from the microprocessors) in front. During the ensuing battle, Alan succeeds in destroying the Commando Elite with an electromagnetic pulse; however, the Gorgonites hide under a parabolic antenna during the impulse, which protects their microprocessors from the electromagnetic radiation. The film ends with the departure of the Gorgonites on a model ship for their "lost" homeland Gorgon.
