Jamie Hodgson

Jamie Hodgson (born February 24, 1930 , † January 8, 2006 in London ) was a British photographer of jazz icons .

Originally a wedding photographer in Kensington and Chelsea , Hodgson became known for his portraits of jazz greats like Duke Ellington , Lionel Hampton , Ella Fitzgerald , Dizzy Gillespie and Jimmy Rushing in the 1950s and 1960s.

His career began in 1950 after military service. In addition to working for various studios, Hodgson photographed various film stars such as Harry Secombe , Frankie Howerd and members of the Crazy Gang . In 1956 he opened his own photo studio in Kingsbridge , where he started photographing well-known models, including Jean Shrimpton , Tania Mallet and Sandra Paul .

His exhibition Unseen Portraits, Masters of Jazz was on view at the National Theater from December 2005 to January 2006 .

Hodgson died of cancer.
