Dick Miller

Richard "Dick" Miller (born December 25, 1928 in the Bronx , New York City , † January 30, 2019 in Toluca Lake , Los Angeles ) was an American actor and screenwriter . He starred in over 180 films.

life and career

Miller was born in the Bronx, New York City, to Russian Jewish immigrants. He went to the City College of New York and later to Columbia University . Then he went to Broadway and worked on the side at the Bellevue Hospital Center and the Queens General Hospital . In 1952 he moved to Los Angeles , California and looked for work as a writer . It was there that the film producer and director Roger Corman became aware of him and cast him for several of his low-budget films . Miller worked with him for over 20 years. He also served for a few years in the US Navy and won a middleweight title as a boxer .

Miller continued to star in early Joe Dante and James Cameron productions . He has also directed a few television shows such as a 1986 episode of Miami Vice called "The Fix". Miller achieved great international fame as the xenophobic war veteran Murray Futterman in the horror comedies Gremlins - Little Monsters (1984) and Gremlins 2 - The Return of the Little Monsters (1990).

Dick Miller had been married to screenwriter Lainie Miller since 1967. He died in California five weeks after his 90th birthday.
